“Mente” sent off to prison for theft
Two convictions were secured in court; in the first case, a fifty-one year old man was today sentenced to a year and five months in prison. On October third, Alrick “Mente” Reneau pleaded guilty to Theft and was fined five hundred dollars. But today when Reneau reappeared in court for an unrelated charge of Theft, Chief Magistrate Margaret McKenzie decided that another fine would not do for his guilty plea and sentenced him to a year in prison. Reneau will also have to spend five months for the previous default payment, with the sentences to run consecutively. The latest incident occurred between November second and twentieth. According to Pamela Bennett, she hired Reneau to do some work on her house but when she checked on his progress on Thursday she found that several gallons of paint and other materials that were to be used to repair the house were missing. When Bennett confronted Reneau, he admitted he stole the items and offered to do work for her in repayment.
