Telemedia launches Digicell Messenger service
Earlier in this newscast, we reported that Telemedia is taking on the government, but not so for the consumers because the well known Digicell Triangle is now being followed by Digicell Messenger Service. This novel service is to be launched tomorrow as Telemedia’s newest mobile-phone service for its customers. The Digicell Messenger Service will allow Digicell prepaid and premier customers to chat with their online contacts using cell phones. At a media demo today Senior Marketing Representative, Erwin Aragon, said anyone can use the new service as long as they can send and receive a text.
Erwin Aragon, Sr. Marketing Representative, Telemedia
“One of the exciting features about this new service is that you don’t need to have GPRS or actually download any special application to use the service. Once you are able to send an SMS and receive an SMS on your phone then you can use Digicell messenger.”

“Is there a subscription fee for this?”
Erwin Aragon
“No Duane, there is no subscription fee for this service. Whenever you send an SMS or be a Digicell messenger, then you pay for that SMS.”

“How can one register for Digicell messenger service?”
Erwin Aragon
“It’s really a simple process Duane. What you do is you enter the code REG along with the service code of the instant messenger service that you have for example: MSN, YAHOO, GOOGLE TALK, ICQ. You enter your email address and your password and you enter your password just as you would if you would be using the service on your PC. Once you’ve done that, then you can log in and then you can chat.”

“So how can I chat with one of my contacts online?”
Erwin Aragon
“It’s very easy Duane. Say for example; I register and you are one of my contacts, once I’ve selected LIS, the LIS command, then you would automatically come on. Lets say you are online you will be assigned a special number for example number two. If I want to initiate a conversation with you then what I do is I enter the message and I send the message to CHAT, 2428 and I attach the number two which is assigned to your online contact and then that is send to you. Once you reply then we can chat back and forth; just by replying to the SMS. Once you log into your PC, then automatically it logs you out from the Digicell messenger.”
