Chef dies on the way from Halfmoon Caye to Belize City
The Belize Police Department and the National Coast Guard were at the Radisson Fort George’s pier this afternoon. The two security teams were there to assist a man who was being transported the city on a Coast Guard vessel. A short while later, the Belize Emergency Response Team showed up with a stretcher since he was still alive when the call was made to BERT. The man unfortunately did not make it and died even before he reached the pier. The body was carted off by a joint team of Coast Guard and police personnel lead by Inspector Hilberto Romero of the Criminal Investigative Branch of the police department. The man has been identified as thirty one year old Samuel Reyes, a chef of Half Moon Caye. Reyes complained of stomach pain after which his condition worsened. He was then transported by a skiff to Calabash Caye where the Coast Guard was able to move him on a faster vessel to the city. He passed away at one forty seven this afternoon en route to the city. His body was transported to the K.H.M.H. where it awaits a post mortem examination.
