P.U.P. condemns firing of BAHA employees
This morning in Belmopan, dismissed BAHA workers protested in front of their former workplace alongside sympathizers and members of the People’s United Party. According to the protestors, which included party leader John Briceño and Lake I area rep Cordel Hyde, they are voicing their displeasure at the actions of the U.D.P. government and are sending the message that the political victimization must end.
Protestor #1
“I am out here today in support of all the victims that has been under the United Democratic Party, especially those from the Ministry of Agriculture from Mr. Rene Montero. I used to work at BAHA for seven years as administrative assistant. In my letter of termination they didn’t mention anything; they just told me that my services have been terminated. But I believe that it is political.”
Protestor #2
“We’re all Belizeans, it doesn’t matter who hires you. As a Belizean if you are hired by the P.U.P. or the U.D.P., don’t we have a right to work?”
Cordel Hyde, Area Rep, Lake Independence
“I thought that it was important that we demonstrated, not just the BAHA workers, but all the workers that have been victimized since February seventh. We’re talking about four, five hundred workers who have been fired for suspected political affiliation because it is important for us to send a message to them that they are not alone and also to send a message to the government that this has to stop. At some point in time the political victimization has to stop.”
