Northern Highway accident claims one life

Meanwhile, a man is dead tonight, the victim of a road traffic accident on the Northern Highway. The deceased has been identified as Ruclin Caal. On Friday, twenty-six year old Manuel Romero of Benque Viejo Road in San Ignacio reported to police that he was driving his truck on the Northern Highway towards Orange Walk Town. Romero says between miles fifty-six and fifty-seven he knocked down a man walking on the road. Caal sustained serious head and body injuries and was taken to the Northern Regional Hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival. His body awaits a post-mortem. Police took a blood specimen for testing from Romero and detained him pending charges.
