Min. of Works says dust, potholes will soon be gone

Story PictureFor months Belize City residents have been patiently waiting for the revitalization of the downtown area to be completed and since the recent flooding, there has been an outcry for something, anything to be done to scale back on the potholes and the dust. This morning Minister of Works Anthony “Boots” Martinez reassured the public that the paving will come and he gave an update on several other disruptions to travel.

Anthony “Boots” Martinez, Area Rep., Port Loyola
“I want to apologise to the Belizean people, especially on Albert and Regent Streets. They have a saying that says “God appoint and man disappoint” and I want to say that we are forging fast ahead, everything is set for the hot mix to be placed on Albert Street shortly. The contractors are preparing the material and we should see that road shortly up and running.”

“The replacement of the Middlesex Bridge will be starting shortly also. The Kendall Bridge, the U.S. military has donated the bridge to us. The necessary engineers will be arriving in the country on November twentieth. We are forging ahead for that. We have gotten the steel beams for the Kendal causeway and the Mullins River causeway, of which when there is any flooding, it won’t take us a long time to restore the approach. So that we are working on as we speak. The Crooked Tree causeway, Mr. Speaker, is presently flooded and is very narrow and two low to remain trafficable during the rainy season. It is scheduled to be lifted and widened to enhance safety and reduce its vulnerability to flooding. Funding is available and the works are being packaged for contract.”
