Mexican ambassador hosts pow wow with media

Story PictureOur two countries have always enjoyed excellent relations and now Mexico wants to further strengthen these ties. And to do that, the Mexican Embassy says it also wants to improve its relationship with the local media. Today Ambassador Luis Lopez Moreno hosted the press to a luncheon to highlight the areas his country wants to target at this stage.

Lic. Luis Lopez Moreno, Mexican Ambassador to Belize
“We’re looking forward to having better trade with Belize and we have an initiative to have a special office at the embassy and work in collaboration with many other offices on the Belizean side promoting trade. We will have special meetings in the next coming days about—to have a meeting with both sides of the border talking about how to improve the trade between Mexico and Belize. That’s the main thing. The other thing is how to have more tourists from Mexico and at the embassy we have a new office that we work in promoting the tourists from Mexico to Belize because the interest of the Mexican president can have more people from Mexico visiting Belize and to put the exchange among tourists between Mexico and your country.”

“You also mentioned areas of multilateral issues, you mentioned cross border issues.”

Lic. Luis Lopez Moreno
“Yes, the other this activity is one special area that we are now working with the Belizeans. We have had several meetings between the police in Belize and to have very well connected the order. This is linked to the same thing. If we want better order connected between Mexico and Belize we will promote the security and people that come from Mexico or travel from Belize to Mexico, they will find better conditions at the border and they will be more safe than in the past between Mexico and Belize.”

“Is there anything on the horizon that you would like to see accomplished very soon?”

Lic. Luis Lopez Moreno
“Yes, what we think is very important is that the public would receive more information about how to cross the border, how to use the service at the border, both sides of the border because that is something that is very interesting. We are going to the border. If people do not receive the information they go to Mexican Embassy to work properly with authorities, with customs and immigration and with the police to inform better to the Belizeans how to cross the border and the minimum requirements to cross the border.”

“You mentioned something that caught my attention; you wanted to forge better ties between journalists from both countries.”

Lic. Luis Lopez Moreno
“Yes, that is one idea that we were working on in this meeting because we know that people who are very informing are people well prepared to have better relationships. And the media is one of our main goals to achieve that. Why? Because to use the media like this, is an opportunity that we have now in order to inform the public about the problems that we have and about the solutions that we’re finding and about the cultural exchange.”

There are many areas of cooperation and trade between Belize and Mexico. In education, students from Mexico and Belize benefit from scholarship programmes and it is known that soon the International Bridge between Belize and Mexico will be opened. Ambassador Lopez Moreno has been in Belize since December of 2007.
