Court of Appeal resumes sessions

Miguel matus

On Monday, the Court of Appeal resumed session and there are a number of criminal and civil matters to be heard. An appeal by Senior citizen, Fortunato Campos, was withdrawn because of timing.  In the Supreme Court, Campos was initially charged with attempted murder, but was found guilty of the alternative charge of wounding. Justice Herbert Lord sentenced him to ten months in prison.  But after almost serving his ten month sentence, his attorney abandoned the appeal because in less than a month Campos would have served his time. Campos was accused of hitting a woman in her head with a metal pipe. The judges of the Court of Appeal heard the appeal of twenty-two year old Miguel Matus, who was convicted on June nineteenth of last year for the 2006 murder of Patricia Tzib. Appearing on his behalf were Attorneys Elton Kaseke and Oswald Twist. The judges reserved their ruling and Matus was sent back to jail.
