Cops still seeking Jose Miranda in firearm bust
An investigation of firearms found in a barrel has intensified and elements of the Police Department’s Anti-drug Unit have taken over the probe into last Thursday’s bust at the Customs compound. The weapons include three high-powered guns, a home-made silencer and several rounds of ammunition that were discovered in a routine inspection by the Customs. The TEK-nine, along with the twelve gauge shotgun and a point twenty-two pistol were stashed inside a barrel addressed to one Jose Miranda of Indian Church Village, Orange Walk. But so far police have been unable to track down Miranda. The barrel also contained miscellaneous wearing apparel and assorted groceries.
Meanwhile, Customs officials are still awaiting feedback from a regional joint intelligence network that tracks down stolen vehicles. This is to confirm their suspicions that three S.U.V’s confiscated by Customs are stolen property. The vehicles are a 2006 white Kia delivery truck, a 2008 Chevy Silverado and a 2002 Jeep Cherokee that were in the custody of three businesses in San Pedro Town, namely, San Pedro Supermarket, San Pedro Hardware and Island Supermarket, all owned and operated by the Harmouch family.
