Sgt. Tyrone Bradley is Belize City’s Officer of the Month

It is not often that we hear good things about the Police, but today the department gave credit where it is due and honoured fourteen of its employees. In a ceremony this afternoon in Belize City, twelve police officers, a special constable and a civilian member of staff were recognised for outstanding service for the month of October. According to Commissioner of Police, Gerald Westby, the monthly programme motivates not only the officers, but the entire Department. As for THE Officer of the Month, Sergeant Tyrone Bradley, winning the distinction was a surprise.

“Very much, there’s over twelve hundred police officers within the department and I’m sure there’s many officers who do work hard as well.”

“And today the icing on the cake as it were today is the special constables, people coming and patrolling with the police and they have graduated; over thirty. You saw them today here. They are quite evident and they are working very close. We have another thirty that want to enlist and this is what we are talking about, the community engaging with the police to fight crime. They get out there and they have the same authority like police and they are out there to help us prevent crime—visibility—so help us by preventing crime and they also patrol along with the police. So the more numbers, the more can spread out our police men to cover more area.”
