Prices of fuel finally go down

There is some good news tonight that will bring a sigh of relief to consumers and that is because the price of fuel has finally dropped significantly in Belize. With the arrival of a new shipment, the prices dipped as of midnight last night at gas pumps in the city and around the country with regular gasoline registering the biggest drop. Premium gasoline reduced from ten dollars and forty-four cents to seven forty-one; regular went from ten dollars and eleven cents to seven dollars and five cents, diesel dropped from nine dollars and three cents to six-ninety-six; and kerosene oil went from nine-seventeen to six-seventy-nine. That is an average decrease of two dollars and sixty-four cents on the gallon. A News Five crew got reaction to the drop in prices and here’s what consumers had to say.

Lincoln Jones, Gas Consumer
“This thing when ih come about the gas dropping and all dat, we have to seh kudos to di man who have won, Barack Obama. Like the saying says when America catches a flu, the whole world sneezes. But its gonna help our economy a lot and being a preacher’s son and a preacher, it’s gonna help us cause we’re doing outreach in Burrell Boom and to pay for gas at a high range, it’s very costly and because of the drop, it’s gonna help us very much. I believe it’s going to decrease as times go by. It’s going to decrease.”

Allen Valencio, Gas Consumer
“I think I’ll get more outta mi money. I thank whosoever ker it down too cause fi many years now we di struggle eena gas prices and thing. So I really think dah something good fi di people ah di country and I think dah noh only me, most people wah happy fi hear that. I noh know if it wah stay down or not but I woulda wish ih stay down though for real.”

Herbert Stuart, Taxi Operator
“I believe it’s a plus for us who operate daily and also commute because I live in Ladyville and I commute daily so this morning when I went to the gas station I was surprised at the price.”

Albert Alvarez, Taxi Operator
“We’ve been waiting for this for a while now and now that it’s here we benefit in so many ways. One of the biggest benefits is that we could full up and go more places rather than just concentrate in just Belize City. And definitely, as a taxi operator you’re collecting what you’re supposed to. Most taxis operated at a lost when the gas price were high and now taxi guys are getting just what they deserve. It’s not about dropping the price but just receiving what we suppose to from the beginning. We welcome it and we look forward to keeping it low as well.”

On the international market light crude was selling today at sixty five dollars thirty-nine cents U.S. a barrel.
