Kids will stay in schools until December nineteenth
Also relating to the flooding, the Ministry of Education has announced that classes will now continue to December nineteenth to make up time lost when schools closed due to the high water levels. Classes were suspended in areas affected by the flooding throughout the Stann Creek, Cayo, Orange Walk and Belize Districts. Most re-opened by October twenty-seventh. But the school in Calla Creek, Cayo, remains closed and now in Douglas, in the Orange Walk District, where an evacuation is underway, classes are also being suspended. According to the M.O.E. release, “a few communities continue to be adversely affected by flooding. This is likely to continue … Our children have lost valuable instructional time during the past two weeks.”
