Poll shows that viewers believe independence of judiciary at risk

In Thursday’s newscast we posed the question: “Do you think that the independence of the Judiciary is at risk?”  Votes to our e-poll showed a total of eight-two percent of viewers expressing strong concern about the threat to the judiciary. One viewer wrote saying “politicians and civil servants need to leave the courts alone, we don’t need people who will “buy” legal covering for embezzlement creating nepotism nor cronyism.”  Another viewer wrote that “one man should not be allowed to make a decision on the appointment of the chief justice and other members of the judiciary if justice is to remain blind. It is high time that we introduce a system whereby these appointments are made by a bipartisan committee.” Eighteen percent of our viewers maintained the view, however, that it is not.  If you wish to take part in the conversation all you have to do is to send comments to questions@channel5belize.com or texting to SMART at 8686, or log on to our e-poll at www.channel5belize.com
