One robber shot, another in custody
One man is currently under police guard at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital and another in police custody for the attempted robbery of a man in broad daylight. Fifty-four year old, Joseph Duce of Police Street in Belize City was at a mechanic shop on Malcolm Street when two young men robbed him at gunpoint of his gold chain valued at twelve hundred dollars and his Motorola phone. The robbers then rode off on bikes towards the boulevard and Duce pulled out his licensed thirty-eight millimetre pistol and fired shots in their direction. Eighteen year old, David Sutherland received two gunshot wounds to the upper right shoulder and right thigh. The stolen cell phone was recovered from him. Police have since arrested and detained Sutherland’s accomplice, nineteen year old Valentine Baptist and charged him with Conspiracy to Commit Robbery and Robbery. Sutherland, who is in stable condition, will be charged when he is released from the hospital.
