Florencio Marin Sr. back in political ring
And in news of a political nature, they have been quiet for some time and except for a few press releases, not much has been heard from the People’s United Party. But tonight there is word that there is plenty trouble brewing within the top ranks of the P.U.P., and all the bad breeze is blowing from the north. The father and son Marin team, Florencio Senior and Florencio Junior, appear to be mounting a challenge to the leadership.
The matter was ventilated today behind closed doors at Independence Hall, where the National Executive took a decision that conventions for standard bearers, that is for the 2013 elections, are not to be held now or anytime soon. Well, the point is that the P.U.P. has not yet concluded conventions for the March 2009 municipal and City Council elections. This is all in response to a letter sent by Florencio Junior to the P.U.P. leader declaring that at the behest of his executive and in line with the party’s constitution, he would be holding a standard bearer convention in the Corozal Southeast, presumably to avert a challenge from a young and coming opponent. And while he was advised not to, Marin has taken to the airwaves to announce his convention for November. Enter the other Marin, Florencio Sr., he is being accused of publicly lambasting the leadership of the P.U.P. on the airwaves recently. It all has to do with what insiders say is a ploy to come out from retirement and get back in to electoral politics. One man who is not taking this lightly is Gregorio Garcia, of Corozal Southwest, where Florencio Senior is aspiring to run. Garcia is now calling on the Executive to discipline the older Marin… We’ll wait and see how this intrigue plays out between the old and new guard of the P.U.P.
