One more flood victim retrieved from Mopan River
In an update to a story we aired last night on the drowning of Guatemalan nationals from the village of Arenal, one more victim has been recovered. The body of Tomasa Mendez was retrieved from the Mopan River near the village of Calla Creek at about two-thirty this afternoon. A search and rescue team combing the waters, found Mendez who was identified by her thirty-four year old son Jose Mendez. Tomasa and other family members left the Guatemalan side of Arenal last Friday for Melchor de Mencos to stock up supplies for their small grocery store when the canoe that was transporting them capsized in the strong currents of the Mopan.
The search and rescue team is still looking for others that perished last Friday.
