NEMO vehicle carrying supplies goes up in flames

Story PictureAs the News Five team headed to Blue Creek, traffic was held up for about forty-five minutes on the Yo Creek Road this morning as a delivery truck for NEMO burst into flames. Luckily, there were no relief supplies on board but as the driver, Roni Canul told News Five, the loss will slow down the process until another truck can be identified for delivery.

“I just mi di come wen I smell smoke and when I open di back I see di fire di come outta di engine.”

“You were doing what; transporting what?”

“I come dah Orange Walk fi pick up fuel fi di boats weh di work back deh.”

Marion Ali
“And den di truck, ih just start …”

Roni Canul
“Suddenly, yeah suddenly, suddenly ih start with fire and we smell it because di fire done mi deh pan di engine.”

Marion Ali
“We heard something popping while ago. What was it?”

Roni Canul
“I believe dah di tires; di two front tires dehn bus.”

Marion Ali
“So nothing was inside; no relief?”

Roni Canul
“Nothing, only me and this guy.”

Marion Ali
“You didn’t get the fuel?”

Roni Canul
“No, I just mi di come fi it.”

“And you also made a remark that the truck is overworked because of all the relief.”

Roni Canul
“Well, You see weh happen, dat I put in di truck inna di water so people could get in and dehn noh get wet. So dat dah di job weh I di do back yah but I believe dah wah short weh ih ketch from somewhere.”

“Well, now you’ve been handicapped by what happened. How do you intend to continue what you were doing?”

Roni Canul
“Well, I’m here for dat so…”

Marion Ali
“You have another truck?”

Roni Canul
“Fi right now noh, but I wah see weh di boss wah decide because we noh have no transport fi tek out and put di people from di boat. Dehn got like two miles inna water.”

Marion Ali
“Which area?”

Roni Canul
“San Antonio.”
