Reality Wedding star and accident victim’s health failing

Channel Five’s Reality Wedding Groom to be, Julio Escalante was badly injured on Wednesday and his condition appears to be worsening.  The twenty-three year old was hit from behind by a car as he rode his bicycle to work at the Princess Hotel & Casino.  The incident happened not far from his family’s home on Central American Boulevard.  His wife to be, Vanesa Ramos, told News Five this evening that the family is deeply concerned that Julio has developed new complications. News Five’s Marion Ali has an update.

Twenty three year old Julio Escalante remains hospitalized for the injuries he suffered this week in a road traffic accident.  And while the initial report was that Julio has suffered a fractured pelvis and jaw and a dislocated shoulder, his wife to be, Vanesa Ramos, says there is reason to be very concerned now about his condition.

“Last night he had problems breathing because of his lungs and as well as this morning.”

What’s wrong with his lungs?

“Well, so far what I last heard, it was bruised because of being crushed. They did a CT scan again on his chest and I haven’t gotten the results as yet. We are still waiting, they said they would give us the results around three-four.”

What will that determine, the lung problem?

Vanessa Ramos

“Yes, and umm the family are trying to decide if we should move him to Belize Health Care Partners to get better assistance.”

Vanessa says Julio’s latest complications are now prolonging the treatment he requires for the other injuries he sustained in the accident.

“This morning he had a schedule for getting surgery on his jaw, to put it back in place but that was cancelled due to him having problems breathing.”

Is he talking?

Vanessa Ramos

“Yes, He alert.”

What’s he saying?

Vanessa Ramos

“Yes, he’s alert. He is asking for daughter every minute. He’s very concerned about her. This morning he just start cry because, you know because of the fright ah we he just stop breathe. Right now ih deh pan oxygen tank. And when I ask ah if ih alright and suh, he start cry. He di worry his daughter deh without wah pa.”

The situation has also been overbearing on other members of the family.

“Last night his niece saw the news and she too had to be rushed her to the emergency because of chest pains because of seeing her uncle in that state.”

But while Vanesa prays and hopes for the best for her husband to be, she is depending on you to help them save his life.

“Well, right now, we’re unsure. My sister in law is checking to see how much it will be at the Belize Health Care Partners.”

The setback has interrupted plans for Belize’s most popular TV couple.

“With the wedding and suh I know itt’s probably postponed. I nuh suh sure because right now we need fu get he back on track. And honestly ih noh look too good but. I mean I know that my faith and the calmness that I am, the show that ih nuh eena wah critical condition; but I di try be strong fi Julio. Because right now, he di give up hope and I tell ah don’t. I still have high hopes. I mean last night dah mi wah fright because I gaahn home botu rung seven and when deh call me and tell me Julio slow down pan ih breathing , I rush back dah hospital because I mi gaahn tend to the baby. I rush back dah hospital he ask me why I come back fa. I nuh wah he feel worried. I tell I just come tell yoh goodnight.”

The Escalante family just buried Julio’s sister less than two months ago after she died from a prolonged illness.  Marion Ali reporting for News Five.
