Nicaraguan murdered in nation’s capital
A Nicaraguan national was murdered in the Capital, Belmopan City, over the weekend. At around two a.m. Sunday morning, a commotion occurred on the Ring road which alerted residents in the area that something foul was happening. Minutes later, the security guard on duty at the Bull Frog Inn called the police to alert them about the ruckus on the street. When the police arrived they found twenty-six year old Jose Mauricio Guevara Ocon, a laborer of Honduras Street in the San Martin Area of Belmopan City lying in the road. Ocon had a stab wound to the chest and the police transported him to the Western Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. A knife that might have been used in the stabbing was subsequently retrieved from the area. That brings the number of murders for 2008 to seventy-eight. No arrests have yet been made in the Belmopan murder.
