Accused serial rapist stabbed in prison
Accused serial rapist, twenty-two year old Leroy Gomez, was stabbed today in the Maximum Security Area of the Hattieville Prison. According to reports, around eight this morning Gomez was stabbed twice in the left side of his back with a sharp object. The weapon has still not been found, but police confirmed that Gomez was attacked by eighteen-year old Luis Cardenas, who was remanded in February of this year. Cardenas was imprisoned for the armed robbery of Janine’s Shop on Sarstoon Street in Orange Walk Town on January sixth and for the alleged double murder of Jose Ricalde and Nazim Romero of Orange Walk Town on February thirteenth of this year. Hattieville police say that they are currently awaiting a medical report on Gomez’s injuries which will determine what charges Cardenas will face. Gomez is in jail for three charges of rape, one count of attempted murder, six counts of robbery, two counts of aggravated assault and one count of wounding. He was dubbed the serial rapist in September when sex crimes with the same pattern and culprit’s description were reported in the Lake Independence and Collet areas of Belize City.
