M.O.E. releases revised school schedules

Due to the flooding, primary and secondary schools in Cayo, Belize, Corozal and Orange Walk were closed today, but if you are wondering what’s the deal for Wednesday, listen up. A release this evening from the Ministry of Education states that in Corozal Town classes resume as normal, while in the rural areas schools will be closed. In Orange Walk Town kids can attend schools, however, doors remain closed in San Roman, Fireburn, San Antonio, San Carlos and Indian Church. Students of the Belize River Valley, along the Maskall Road and Ladyville can stay at home, but primary schools in Ladyville will resume classes as will primary and secondary schools in Belize City. There will be no classes for students in the Cayo District. Schools in Stann Creek and Toledo will resume as normal. As for the tertiary institutions, News Five understands that Galen University has cancelled classes until Friday. U.B. in Toledo will be open on Wednesday, but classes at the other campuses will be cancelled. Faculty and staff who live nearby and can report to work are asked to do so, but not at any personal risk. M.O.E. advises parents and guardians to use their own good judgment and not put themselves or their children at unnecessary risk of harm or loss of life when deciding whether to attend school.
