Lester Young freed of murder charge
Lester Young, one of two men changed with murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the fatal shooting of twenty-two year old Alpheus Smith junior, was freed of the charges today by Chief Magistrate Margaret McKenzie. At the preliminary investigation to determine if there was prima facie case to send it up to the Supreme Court, Young’s attorney, Dickie Bradley, submitted that his client did not have a case to answer. Chief Magistrate McKenzie concurred after she heard the argument from the prosecution. Smith was gunned down on Saturday, June sixteenth, 2007 at the corner of Gibnut Street and Curassow Street while he was changing a tire on a vehicle. Young was also charged with keeping a firearm and ammunition without a gun license but those charges were also dismissed. But while he was freed today, he was stabbed with a piece of glass in the left arm, while on remand. Two brothers, Linton and Jody Gentle were charged jointly with Young. They were committed for trial in the January session of the Supreme Court.
