Telemedia takes G.O.B. in suits and countersuits
If you thought that the legal tangles between the Government and Telemedia were on hold, well think again, because early this morning before the Magistrates’ Court had ordered Telemedia to pay up four million dollars in taxes for June and July, Telemedia and its Executive Committee Chairman, Dean Boyce, filed a claim against Magistrate Ed Usher and the Attorney General. The utility company sought a declaration that the issue of the arrest warrant by Magistrate Usher on July fourth on Boyce was unlawful as it contravened section one-one-two of the Belize Supreme Court of Judicature Act. Telemedia is seeking the court to declare that the warrant is therefore null and void. Telemedia is also seeking damages in respect to the reputation of both the utility company and its executive chairman as well as compensation for the pecuniary loss caused to Telemedia and exemplary damages arising from the conduct of Magistrate Usher, who issued the summons for the arrest of Boyce. Representing Telemedia on this case is Attorney Elson Kaseke.
