Who will be the ultimate talent on Duets?
After twelve grueling weeks of competition, the finals of Duets took place at the Bliss Centre as scheduled on Tuesday night. The audience clung to every second of performances by the three remaining duets who hail from Cayo and Belize City. And what a show it was! All three couples were in top form, physically and mentally as they brought entirely new classy acts to the stage. News Five Duane Moody was up close and personal with the three hopefuls after they danced their last pieces in the competition.

It was down to the wire for three remaining couples in Duets. Backstage, they did their wardrobe changes, final rehearsals and prepared mentally to brace the stage and grace the audience. In sight was the ten thousand dollars prize.
First to perform were returning competitors, Kathryne and Jermaine Garnett, who have shown mettle throughout the competition.
Kathryne Garnett, Duets Finalist
“It took us about three days to get our work together, first of all. And sometimes it’s very hard work sometimes we stay up from morning right through to night to practice fully for this performance. You feel, you move to the beat. The music is something wonderful which we both experience throughout our whole life, music is our life, dancing is our life.”
Duane Moody
“Has this been costing you guys money and how much did you really pout into tonight and all those other weeks?”
Jermaine Garnett, Duets Finalist
“Well, we noh really worry how much it cost cause we promise everybody wah show and we give they wah show. That dah all we want cause dah they di vote fi we.”
Bringing something new to the stage was Tyrone Nunez and Wayne Moses. This duo picked a country theme and incorporated comedy in their presentation and they had the auditorium bellowing with laughter.
Wayne Moses, Duets Finalist
“We came up with that like three days ago and we thought that it would be different for Belizean folks to see. So we just brought it to the Belize folks si if dehn wah like it or not.”
Tyrone Nunez, Duets Finalist
“To me I think that it is something new something different that would have the crowd in anticipation-the wonder what we would do next.”
Duane Moody
“And you feel dat sealed you the title because obviously the crowd mi deh di go off afterwards?”
Wayne Moses
“I could see that and I really appreciate everybody weh vote fi we and thing.”
Tyrone Nunez
“We always had a relationship with the crowd and dat dah weh people really need fi understand. Di judge dehn play wah part in who di people vote for, but really di outcome of di whole duets dah if you can interact with di crowd and have di crowd like what unnu do.”
Duane Moody
“Throughout the competition you guys brought the comedic side that kinda came with the drama last season. But now you’re bringing in a different way, you’re adding dancing to it. You feel that’s what defines you guys?”
Tyrone Nunez
“Weh I learn from Masters of the Floor that Belizean people like fi see dancing but they actually wah get entertained when they di see dancing. So yoh can’t just dance on di stage, you have to mix up dancing and drama together.”
The last performance for the night was another crowd favorite, the dancing duo—Delonie Grant and Gilbert Gomez who outdid themselves with a mix of music from the 80’s to the present.
Gilbert Gomez, Duets Finalist
“Well we just come out yah fi do we best and we practice hard, we practice everyday. We quarrel a lot, but we still get we job done at the end of the day.”
Duane Moody
“You guys always have matching costuming every single week, is this coming out at a cost for you?”
Delonie Grant, Duets Finalist
“Yeah a big cost because first of all we don’t have no sponsors so we just get help from fi he ma and sister. And we do everything from home. We noh got no sponsors or nothing, we work everything from fi we home.”
Duane Moody
“And you feel it paid off now?”
Delonie Grant & Gilbert Gomez
“Yeah.”
Everyone has a favourite and Host, William Neal, says that the competition is tight and it will be up to the texting public to decide who is crowned the champ.
William Neal, Hosting
“There was a clear favorite based on the response of the audience tonight. In terms of next week, we have performances from the judges, I’ll dust off my dancing shoes and try and do something. Hopefully I’ll be able to walk unlike last year but I think it’s going to be a fun show. The show that you see at home is quite different from what you experience at the Bliss. So I just want to encourage people to come out and have a good time. I think last year we got lucky because we got a lot of seasoned performers. I think this year you had far more novices take the stage and very often people don’t understand how difficult it is to come up with something creative each week and that is a huge challenge.”
So who will be season two’s duet champs? You choose. Just text the number of your favorite duo to Duet, that’s 3-8-3-8. Duane Moody, reporting for News Five.
