DJ Richie tops regional competition

Story PictureAnybody who follows the music scenes will tell you that Jamaicans believe they are the cream of the crop in this region and beyond. That’s why when Belize claimed top prize at the regional finals for the fifth annual Heineken Green Synergy DJ Competition in Jamaica, it was a big deal. With an audience of over four thousand Jamaicans cheering for their favourite DJ, Belize’s DJ Richie, who came in as the underdog, stepped in and stole the show.

“Across in Jamaica, it was very serious it was the biggest thing for the weekend. As we reach in Jamaica, you could have seen it on the newspaper on the TV, the radio it was everywhere. It was all about DJ Jigga from Jamaica. You know Jamaicans are very patriotic and for me to go there and win it in his hometown his home court it was yea. We couldn’t believe it. Belize we look good out there. We had a great opportunity. The market has opened for Belize to Jamaica. When the guys at the radio stations and the TV stations interview me, the first question they ask is ‘where is Belize?’ Belize was very underrated for the competition and I’m so proud that we came out on top.”

“I wanna say a big thank you to all those who sponsored us in this event and the upcoming one also. I wanna say congrats to Richie for winning. He’s the first person ever to for Belize. So I wanna say: ‘Go Richie, Go’ & the theme for this year is the ‘DJ makes the music, you make the moves.”

Then I just say hold on. Just move, just press. No care what people say. No care weh you come from, I’m from Big Falls. Two years ago I was cutting up firewood. If I could do it anybody could do it. Twenty-two year old DJ Richie leaves Belize next week en-route to Curacao for the final competition where he will try for the top prize against the region’s top eight DJ’s. His sponsors included, Karl H Menzies, Synergy Promotion, Mayor Simeon Lopez and the Belmopan City Council.
