Delegation travels to Nicaragua for Special Olympics
A delegation of forty-six travelled to Managua, Nicaragua today to represent Belize at the second Annual Central American Games for Students with Disabilities. The delegation includes twenty-five athletes between the ages of thirteen and eighteen, their coaches and their chaperones. The athletes were selected earlier this year as the top contenders of the National Special Olympic Games held in May and who were trained during the summer. They will be participating in track and field games which include shot put and long jump.
Last year at the first regional CODICADER games, Belize sent thirty athletes to Guatemala and returned with thirty three medals. This year our athletes join approximately five hundred athletes from around the region, representing Panama, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras and El Salvador.
A welcome ceremony will be conducted upon the athletes return to Belize on the ninth of October.
