Novelo brothers find glitches in new system
And at the press conference one of the affected parties, owners of National Transportation Services Limited, David and Antonio Novelo dug holes in the new plan.
David and Antonio Novelo, Co-owner, N.T.S.L.
“Out of all of these individuals that you have given run to Benque, and I’ll name them: Guerra, D&E Bus Line, the BBOC, none of them have no infrastructure placed in Benque, not even a garage, not even a simple tool box. When you have things that you have a bus company has to move and evacuate people, you have to have the financial capacity to have fuel to evacuate people and then ask the government well this is my bill.”
Antonio Novelo, Co-owner, N.T.S.L.
“If a bus comes from P.G. and the commuter will only be able to come to Belmopan. So if I live in PG and my family is in Hattieville you’re telling me I have to come down to Belize City and then pay back a bus to go back to Hattieville? If I live in Placencia and I want to go to Dangriga, are you telling me that the Placencia bus can only come straight to Belize, it cannot go into Dangriga? So what I am showing the press here is the zoning there still is a mixture whereby you will be running because the Placencia bus has to go into Dangriga to drop off passengers. It has to go into Hopkins to drop in passengers or all around the highway. What I’m saying here press is can we look at the inconvenience the commuters have. Does it mean paying more fares or does it mean if you’re coming from Dangriga and you family is in Cotton Tree or at Camalote or at Democracia, you telling me you have to come all the way to Belize City and then go back.”
Col. George Lovell, C.E.O, Ministry of Transport
“There are reasons why we are asking and we have planned not to have people going across zones and its simply because of the public cry of vehicles racing and endangering people life. That was one of the major driving force of doing that. We also look and we look at the captive market that is out there and based on the studies done, you will find out that in the south, the commuting population is far less than you will find in the western and even the northern zones. And so to have another large company going in there, it will do injustice to those that currently exist in those areas.”
The new system will be a twenty-four hour one, with buses leaving their various destinations every hour.
