Salvadoran gets 5 years for robbery of Minister of State
A Salvadoran who is illegally in Belize got five years today for the burglary of the home of the Minister of State, Michael “Hutchie” Hutchinson. On Tuesday September twenty-second, Hutchinson woke up to find that his house had been robbed. Hutchinson, who lives on Partridge Street in the Mitchell Estate area of Ladyville, said that he was awakened by his daughter who told him that two glass louvers were missing from her bedroom window. The minister of state confirmed that indeed louvers were missing and he also noticed that the building’s back door was open. This prompted Hutchinson to further check his home and he discovered that his cell phone valued at eight hundred dollars was also missing. Police soon found out that one of Hutchinson’s neighbors, twenty-nine year old illegal Salvadoran national, Roberto Carlos Alvarez, was the man who burglarized the house between twelve-thirty and two-thirty a.m. A neighbor gave a sworn statement saying he saw Alvarez removing the louvers and entering the house. Police recovered the phone when they detained him the following day, September twenty-third. Today, Alvarez pleaded guilty to the charge of burglary and Chief Magistrate Margaret Gabb promptly sentenced him five years behind bars.
