Customs bust container with cash
There is another container that has turned up in Belize with suspicious cargo but it does not have to do with pseudoephedrine; this time it’s cold cash. And today Customs authorities are investigating the shipment that landed in their custody with a significant amount of cash. The cargo arrived in Belize on Monday and its contents were revealed on Tuesday when it was opened. Customs officials discovered thirty-two thousand greenbacks stashed inside cornflakes boxes in the shipment that was labeled “Personal Effects”. The shipment originated from Chicago and was destined for Belize consigned to a Cayo freight service operated by the nephew of a government Minister. Since February of this year, several suspect shipments coming from foreign countries have landed in Belize, most of them carrying the illicit pseudoephedrine and fake Marlboro cigarettes. So far no charges have been brought against anyone. The last two persons to be detained Howell Hutchinson and Hilberto Marchand were released by police last week.
