Kim Simpliss named ambassador for special needs children

Story PictureAnd special needs children in Belize have their first ambassador. At today’s press conference, the Managing Director of Special Olympics North America signed an agreement with the Prime Minister to introduce Kim Simpliss as one of its Global Ambassadors. Simpliss joins the ranks of notable ambassadors such as Bon Jovi, Bono, Muhammad Ali, Yao Ming and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

“My work with lifeline, we raise funds to help vulnerable children in our community. What we do, we help children with educational materials, medical needs and we do feeding programmes. If we have to build cafeterias, we build cafeterias and provide feeding programmes for school and children who need the help.”

“The global ambassadors have the likes Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bono from U2. how does it feel to join the ranks of these people?”

Kim Simpliss
It’s humbling, it’s an honour. I didn’t expect this but, like I said, I’m honoured that they selected—that they looked at me.”

“I’m happy. It will help us to get stronger to have the lady with us to help us work and do good. it will just make us feel good that we have someone in our country to work with us.”

Jose Sanchez
“What work do you expect to accomplish on the behalf of the youths, of the special needs children of our country?”

Kim Simplis
“I certainly want to be that voice for them and to work to advocate the respect of these special Olympic athletes. I think it’s important that they have a place in our society, in our schools, that there is inclusion for all these children and these children are brought out to the forefront because they are such a force in our society and they can do so much if only given the opportunity.”

Simpliss says she will work on international advocacy, assist Special Olympics Belize with fundraisers and the Stella Maris School with sporting activities.
