Blease, King in court for shootings
Two men appeared in court today for separate shooting incidents. In the first case, a twenty-four year old fisherman of Rivero Street, Leon Blease, was charged in connection with the shooting of thirty-three year old Freddy Grant. Blease was charged with Attempted Murder, Dangerous Harm and Use of Deadly Means of Harm. Chief Magistrate Margaret McKenzie could not offer Blease any bail because of the nature of the offences and he was remanded in custody until October twenty-third. Grant, a resident of the Conch Shell Bay area, reported to the police that he was standing at the corner of Vernon Street when the assailant rode up on a bicycle and fired several shots, two of which hit Grant in the cheek and back. He headed to East Collet Canal and collapsed near La Cabana Bar. Grant was taken to the K.H.M.H. and is reportedly in critical condition. Police retrieved six expended sheets from the scene. It is reported that the beef with Grant was because he had slapped another man.
In another shooting twenty-one year old Edward King, a resident of Mahogany Street Extension who allegedly fired a shot at three men, was charged with three counts of Aggravated Assault when he appeared today in Magistrates’ Court. King is charged with the shooting of Marlon Vernon, Jewel Pou and Roberto Singh who were standing on McKay Boulevard when they were allegedly shot at. Luckily, the bullet missed its mark. The incident occurred at eleven-forty p.m. on September sixteenth but King was not detained by police until September twenty-first. King pleaded not guilty and no bail was offered. He was remanded in custody until October twenty-third.
And in a third shooting that happened on Independence Day in Roaring Creek, a man is recovering at the Western Regional Hospital. On Sunday, police visited the hospital where they saw twenty-six year old labourer Felix Miranda suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg. Miranda told police that around four on September twenty-first, while sitting in front of Smith’s Cool Spot he was approached by three men he recognized as Brandon Jones, Jeremy Joseph, and Jamie Armstrong, all of the same village. An argument broke out between the four and ended with Miranda being shot in the leg. Police have yet to make any arrests.
