Major Ganey Dortch, Chief of Staff, B.D.F.
“The driver experienced some problems. We are still investigating to determine what those problems could have been. It overturned, injuring seven individuals. At this time we know of six that are not too serious, one unconscious. The other six suffered injuries to the arms, the legs, and in some cases the chest. We have one soldier, as we speak, complaining of chest problems. We had four heli-evacuated to the K.H.M.H. and the other three were driven from the incident scene to the hospital in the Cayo District. The three transported to the Cayo District were said to be the ones that were worst and they guys had to make a command decision as to trying to get medical attention to these individuals. These are preliminary information, we are trying to see exactly what was the case, all who ere involved, we are trying to notify the next of kin of these individuals, so unfortunately at this time we cannot release names and numbers.”

The men who were injured in the accident had been stationed at Las Cuevas for fourteen days and had just been relieved by a fresh batch of soldiers.
