Safiyyah outlines weekend’s independence activities

Story PictureThere’s plenty to do this Independence weekend. So if you’re looking forward to partaking in the traditional flag-raising, having a few laughs at the comedy show or just to soak up some reggae beats at one of the concerts, Saffiyah is here to give you the full run-down of the festivities.

Hey guys I’m Safiyyah and this is What’s Happening Belize September edition part three. Our September celebrations are almost over but the biggest day is yet to come, Independence Day.

In the independence spirit there will be a municipal multi-cultural fair this Saturday and Sunday here in Belize City. It will be held on the old technical college compound. There will be plenty to eat and drink out there. The multi-cultural fair will also feature performances from artists like Leela Vernon and Supa G. You can also look out for Battle of the Bands happening out there as well. So make sure you check out this one. It is definitely a family affair.

If you’re jus looking for food on Saturday then go check out the annual international food fest being held at the Anglican Cathedral campus at ten a.m.

Do you love shrimp? Then Saturday you should head over to the Savannah Wild Splash in Orange Walk for their big Shrimp Fest. The fun starts at midday and is only five dollars to get in. They will have different types of shrimp prepared in a variety of ways including mango tango shrimp, shrimp Kebabs, and of course shrimp ceviche. There will also be fun contests that you can participate in; some contest only for the adults. They will also feature a performance by the Youth Connection Band. So calling out all shrimp lovers to the Savannah Wild Splash in Orange Walk, I know I’ll be there.

Of course Saturday night, twentieth September is the official flag raising ceremony will be held here in Belize City and also in Belmopan, PG, San Pedro and Orange Walk. Be sure to look out for the fantastic fireworks as well to bring in our independence.
