Eileen Augusta turns 101

Meet Eileen Agusta of Belize City, the newest centenarian on the block. And in News’ Five’s tradition we stopped in at her home on Haynes Street in Belize City to catch up with her as she enters a century plus of life … her one hundred and first birthday. Eileen was flanked by her favorite companion and personal bodyguard, Lassie, and as we learnt, even though she’s been confined to a wheelchair for the past three years after a fall that broke her hip, she is still thankful for her blessings.

“Ole lady di een, bwoy. I thank God fi di help me gial but I mi think god mi wah help me, weh I coulda mi walk eena dis lee old house but I can’t stand up. Fi come outta this thing I stand up, they live di haffu shub me. Thank god I di ya, every day I go lee bit, lee bit soon reach yonda. I thank everybody weh look pan old people”

To fittingly mark this milestone, Eileen is celebrating her birthday tonight with a bash organized by her closest friends and relatives.
