Grenade and other explosives included in Firearm Act
In news from Belmopan, government is tightening up legislation following the carnival grenade scare on September sixth in front of the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. A Statutory Instrument has been passed into law to amend Section forty-five of the Firearm Act to include deadly items such as Hand Grenades, Grenade Launchers, and any Explosive Device or material, including extended magazines, bullet proof vests, flare guns, and pen guns. This means that these weapons have been added to the schedules of the Act that was amended as recent as this past June to toughen the penalty for firearm offences. As a result of the new amendment, Magistrates can no longer offer bail and the accused can be remanded for up to ninety days. Convictions will now result in jail time of up to two years.
