Safiyyah’s weekend blotter is full of activities

Story PictureThere is plenty to do this weekend as the national day fever sweeps across the country in this festive month. Saffiyah has details.

Hi, I’m Safiyyah and this is What’s Happening Belize September Edition part two.

The September celebrations are in full swing and as the annual tradition goes, this weekend is the Expo Belize Trade Show 2008. Every year for the past twelve years, Belizean products and services have been put on display and this year is no different. The expo usually attracts more that fourteen thousand visitors and often more than a hundred and twenty different products and services are on display. So check out the expo fair this Saturday and Sunday at the S.J.C. gymnasium.

Tonight in Belize City, there is a wide variety of activities you can check out. The Ms Y International Pageant will be held tonight at seven-thirty p.m. at the City Center. You can take out the entire family and enjoy the entertainment these seenagers have to offer.

If you’re looking for a more musical performance tonight, the place to be is the Bliss center for performing arts for the Francis Reneau concert beginning at seven-thirty p.m.

For those of you who are still in high school or tertiary level and in the Orange Walk area tonight, you’ll definitely want to head over to the Bishop Martin High school bash. The dance will run from seven-thirty until midnight, which means hours and hours of non stop fun. It will be held at the La Imaculada Auditorium and it’s only five dollars to get in. DJ Jessemar will be spinning the tunes so make sure, if you’re in the area, you check this one out.

Also in Orange Walk tonight for the adults, Magnets Lounge will be having their big balloon drop tonight. There will be all sorts of different items in the prizes inside the balloons. During the night there will be a live performance by the Legacy rock band. The fun starts at nine p.m. and the entrance is free for the first ten ladies.

On Sunday, fourteenth September, the Lamanai Adventure Challenge Canoe Race will be held in Orange Walk. The race starts at Indian Church and will run forty miles ending at Banquitas in the Orange Walk Town. If you want more information you can call Key-Di Castillo at 600-2719.

Also on Sunday, the Mexican Embassy will be presenting a children’s Ballet at six p.m. at the Bliss Center For performing Arts. It’s free to get in and it’s definitely a family event. If ballet is not your thing then you can check out the tea party being held at the Biltmore plaza entitled “Any Hat Will Do”. It begins at four p.m. and prizes will be given for the most unique hats. The cost is twenty-five dollars and there will be live entertainment and a Chinese auction. This tea party is being held as a fundraiser for the new Anglican Church being built in Lords Bank.

Before I go, I just want to remind you to look out for the tribute to Belizean Patriots coming up next week Thursday at the Bliss. Ok, that’s all for now, have a great weekend and stay safe. Bye!
