P.U.P. expresses solidarity with Cuba and Haiti

There is no shortage of news from the opposition People’s United Party which today issued a release expressing its concern to the governments of Cuba and Haiti over the loss they experienced as a result of Hurricane Gustav, Hanna and Ike. In Cuba, four lives were lost while over three hundred and twenty thousand homes were damaged and a total of thirty thousand destroyed. Haiti experienced one hundred and fifty deaths from these hurricanes which brought flooding and mudslides. Most of Haiti’s infrastructure in the north-west of the country has been destroyed or damaged.

The P.U.P. says it stands in solidarity with the citizens of Cuba and Haiti and calls on Belize’s government to launch an appeal for donations to assist the hurricane victims of these two countries. The P.U.P.’s release reminds Belizeans to be vigilant and prepared during this hurricane season.
