Citrus prices down considerably
In other news to add to the economic woes, this time from the citrus industry, the Citrus Products of Belize Limited has announced the final prices for oranges and grapefruit. According to a release, payments will be made on September fifteenth, but before growers start to celebrate, there is a notable and significant drop in prices. Last year, C.P.B.L. bought oranges for approximately two dollars and nineteen cents per pound solid and this year they fetch only about a dollar forty-one per pound. The price for oranges sold by the box last year was twelve dollars and seventy-seven cents and this year the price is down to eight forty-eight per box. Grapefruit has also seen a significant drop in its price. Last year a box of grapefruit sold for approximately five dollars fifty-one cents and this year C.P.B.L. is paying about three dollars fifty-eight cents.
