Two shot for getting too close to a Cherokee

The shootings were not confined to Saturday. On Sunday night two Belize City men who were hanging-out near a popular Asian establishment on Central American Boulevard, became the targets of a shoot-out. Lee’s Shopping City also known as Archie’s, was where thirty year old Patrick Kerr of Flamboyant Street and twenty-two year old Leo Palacio of Raccoon Street were injured when they were suspected of attempting to jack the wrong vehicle. A White Cherokee with dread colored license plates pulled up to the shopping center and two females exited and went inside the store. Kerr then approached the passenger’s side and Palacio went to the driver’s side of the Cherokee. But they ran out of luck as the driver of the Cherokee pulled out a chrome gun and shot the two men. An eyewitness on the scene gave us his firsthand account.

“Saturday night wah white Cherokee pulled up in front ah di supermarket and two guys that were standing across the street went towards the Cherokee and they were talking normal; nothing neva seem like ih wrong. So I went back and sit down inside and five minutes after I start to hear some gunshots ring out and I came outside and by the time I came outside wah guy di run inside weh get shot inna ih leg and inna ih foot da bottom. So we look fi si weh di happen and we si wah guy inna di white Cherokee standing up wid wah gun and di fire shots inna di supermarket direction. So being dat we are here personnel with licensed firearm, we then took out the firearm and start to shoot towards the direction ah di Cherokee and dah so di Cherokee stop fire shots coming towards di supermarket and drove off. Dat was it.”

Kerr was shot to his upper right leg, knee and lower back while Palacio was hit in the lower back and right arm. Both men were admitted in critical but stable condition at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. The police have since detained a suspect for questioning.
