Teen sentenced to six months of Boot Camp
A seventeen year old boy who was charged on Thursday with Attempted Murder was today sentenced to six months in prison. The teen appeared in the Belize Family Court and was found guilty of keeping a nine millimeter pistol with seven rounds of ammunition in its magazine and was given three months for each offence. Magistrate Aretha Perez stipulated that the sentences should run consecutively and that the minor should be confined to Boot Camp at Kolbe Foundation. The incident occurred on August thirty-first, 2007. Police on mobile patrol on Raccoon Street say they heard a gunshot and proceeded to Amara Avenue. Once there they saw a person speeding away on a bicycle heading towards Dean Street and pursued him. Police eventually caught up with the masked ride and retrieved the firearm. During the proceedings, the minor gave a statement from the dock, denying that he had a gun.
