Municipal bodies undergoing audits
The drama and allegations at the Belize City Council has apparently prompted a response from the Ministry of Local Government. Today in a press release the ministry announced that the Office of the Auditor General has completed an audit of the Belize City Council for the financial years of 2003-2004 and 2006-2007 and that a review of April 2007 through to August 2008 will begin on Monday. The release goes on to state that audits have been completed for Corozal, Orange Walk, Dangriga, San Pedro, Benque, and San Ignacio for various years and that a Punta Gorda audit will follow that of the Belize City Council. Several weeks ago, councillor Mark King accused Mayor Zenaida Moya of financial mismanagement, prompting the Association of Concerned Belizeans last week to call for an audit of the council’s financial affairs.
