Central America and Mexico join in independence celebrations

It did not make it on the official celebrations calendar, but on September thirteenth the embassies of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Belize will join forces to hold an Independence Day celebration. All six countries celebrate their independence this month and will commemorate it with an artistic festival and concert to be held at the Governor General’s field in Belmopan. That event begins at four p.m. and will feature a marimba group from Guatemala; the reggae group Hierba Santa from Mexico; and traditional dances from Belize. On the fourteenth, the festivities move to the Bliss Centre in Belize City where a children’s ballet group will perform. Both events are free of charge and open to the public. For more information, contact the Institute of Mexico at 223-1408.
