Marion Jones free on Friday
Former track star and Belizean hero Marion Jones will be released from prison on Friday. In March, Jones entered a federal prison in Fort Worth, Texas and began serving a six-month sentence, her penalty for pleading guilty to two counts of Obstruction of Justice. In January, Jones admitted she lied about a check-scam involving the father of one of her sons, Tim Montgomery, and again when questioned by a federal investigator about her use of the steroid known as “The Clear” during the 2000 Olympics in which she won five medals. In late August, Jones was moved to a correctional facility in San Antonio where she remained to continue serving her sentence. Media reports out of the U.S. are that Jones apparently made a request to President Bush asking that her sentence be commuted, but it was never acted on. After her release, Jones will still have to serve eight hundred hours of community service.
