Karima Card will be crowned new Queen of the Bay

Story PictureIn the oldest beauty pageant in Belize, Karima Card, competing as Miss Black Orchid was chosen as the new Queen of the Bay to succeed outgoing Queen, Ronnie Coye. Card won over nine other contestants in talent, evening gown, and interview segments to capture the title of Queen of the Bay 2008-2009 and was also selected as Miss Eloquence. The pageant had its share of excitement and diversity as the contestants came from across the country. Today, News Five caught up with Card who shared what she expects to do during her reign.

Karima Card, Queen of the Bay Designate
“Well, it’s something that I’ve always wanted to do as I’ve been saying. I was pretty confident—I had the support of all my friends and family and the teachers here and you know so I felt really confident. I was just so excited. It was just overwhelming and I was really excited and happy. It was good. Well, it means a lot as we all know this a very prestigious pageant and the title of Queen of the Bay is something really big and I intend to be a positive role model and try my best to live—to show my love for my country, for my people, for God and, you know, just do the best I can to be a role model for, not only young girls or young women, but to people of Belize on a whole.”

Card is a graduate of Saint John’s College Junior College and a teacher at the Belize Elementary School. If you missed her crown and sash, well that is simply because she will be crowned on September tenth at the Memorial Park during official ceremonies. Other notables are Miss Mesopotamia Natasha Hernandez who won Best Talent, Miss Lake Independence Annlyn Apolonio who won Most Photogenic and Queen of the West Bernadine Tillett who was named Miss Amity.
