City woman escapes rapist on police street
Police are trying to track down a rapist who attempted to assault his second victim in two weeks. The perpetrator first struck last Sunday morning when he allegedly raped one of two women whom he held up with a knife between Antelope Street and Iguana Street Extension, in Belize City. Now police believe that the same man may be behind the attack of a twenty-six year old housewife of Belize City because the modus operandi is the same. According to the latest victim, she was riding her bicycle towards Police Street around three a.m. on Saturday when a man on a bicycle held her up with a knife. The man put the knife to her neck and demanded money. She obliged and gave him five dollars, but it seems that wasn’t enough for the robber as he then ordered her to take off her pants. He attempted to rape her, but luckily the victim managed to escape. Because of the similarities in the way the crimes were carried out and the common description of the perpetrator; police believe that it is the same man responsible for the rape in the Collet area last Sunday morning.
In a separate incident, a fourteen year old minor has reported a rape that occurred four months ago. According to the minor, sometime in May, she was working at the Menandros Store at the Free Zone, cleaning the bathroom when she was hit by a yet unidentified person. The teen says the fall knocked her out and upon regaining consciousness, she realized that she had been raped. A doctor has now confirmed that the fourteen year old is pregnant.
