U.B. student charged with friend’s murder

On Friday, we reported on the mysterious death of eighteen year old U.B. student, Juan Baeza and tonight police have made an arrest. On Saturday police formally arrested and charged eighteen year old Izra Zetina, with Baeza’s murder. On Thursday, Baeza, Zetina, and nineteen year old Gaspar Vasquez, all students of U.B., hitched a ride in the pan of a pickup truck. According to the police, their investigations have revealed that somewhere along the way from Belize City to Orange Walk Town an altercation broke in which Baeza hit Zetina. Zetina is said to have retaliated and Baeza fell, hitting his head on some crates that were in the vehicle. A motionless, but breathing Baeza was then taken home by the two friends. Family members confirmed to News Five that Juan was brought home by the two young men but it was not until a few hours later that Baeza’s uncle discovered he had no pulse and transported him to the Northern Regional Hospital. Doctors then confirmed that Baeza had died several hours before. Zetina is scheduled to be arraigned for Murder tomorrow while the other friend, Gaspar Vasquez, has not been charged. A post-mortem on Baeza’s body is still pending and is tentatively scheduled for tomorrow. Reports say the three were drinking on the way back to Orange Walk.
