Two weekend shootings in Belize City

And in other news from the dangerous Belize City streets, a man is recovering at the Karl Heusner tonight from gunshot wounds. At about nine-thirty p.m. last night thirty-eight year old Phillip Lightburn, a resident of Cemetery Road, was sitting at the corner of Fullers Alley and Cemetery Road, when a man came up behind him and fired three shots from a chrome gun. Lightburn was shot in the upper area of his abdomen and to the back of his right calf. Police have detained a suspect and are questioning him regarding the shooting incident.

But Lightburn was not the only shooting victim over the weekend. A few hours earlier another Belize City man was shot. At about six p.m., thirty-two year old Nuri Thomas was walking along Central American Boulevard. Upon reaching the roundabout on the Western Highway a man emerged from Banak Street and went to the roundabout and fired several shots at Thomas. Thomas was blasted twice, once on his left arm and another to the left side of his face. The pellet that hit him in the face exited behind his right ear.
