13 year old and guardian beaten by seven attackers
An eighteen year old girl has been fined three hundred dollars for her part in beating a woman and child. On August twelfth, a thirteen year old girl and her guardian, twenty-eight year old Michelle Johnson, reported that they were attacked by Nicole Ortiz, Ortiz’s sisters and her mother. The incident is said to have occurred around seven-thirty p.m. on Police Street. The teen victim says she was standing in front of her house when Ortiz, who was at the corner, called her over. When she went to see what the woman wanted, the girl says Ortiz took a piece of wood and lashed her on her left arm. Not long after, Ortiz’s relatives joined in, beating her with PVC pipes and sticks. It is further alleged that when the child’s guardian intervened, she was also beaten with sticks on her back. The seven female assailants were detained yesterday and this morning appeared in Magistrates’ Court to face charges of harm and common assault. Ortiz pleaded guilty to the charges and was fined two hundred dollars for harm and one hundred dollars for assault. She has until September thirtieth to pay up, and in default she will spend three months in prison. The charges against her mother and sisters where dropped.
