Man walks free after locking up ex-common-law wife for 3 days
And twenty-three year old Nigeymon Bevans Junior walked out of Magistrates’ Court a free man today after his case was struck out for keeping his ex-common-law wife under lock and key for three days. The reason for that move was because the case file was not available despite several requests for it by the prosecutor. Bevans was charged for the aggravated assault and unlawful imprisonment of his ex-common-law wife in September 2007. According to the victim, she was at home on September twenty-eighth when a taxi pulled up outside and the driver told her that Longsworth sent him for her. The woman says she had a date with Longsworth, so she got in the car. However, the driver instead took her to Dolphin Street where Bevans got into the vehicle brandishing a pistol. Bevans then directed the driver to take them to his apartment where he imprisoned her for three days. The woman alleges that she was also raped, but Bevans was never charged with that offence.
