More charges against Mayor Moya

If you thought that Friday’s press conference by Mayor Zenaida Moya or the pronouncement by Party Leader Dean Barrow that Councillor Mark King will not run in the October convention, would end the dispute at City Hall, you were wrong. And today the ante was raised with television campaign ads were launched by King. Apparently, the City Councillor has not received the memo that he can’t contest the convention due to last week’s breach of his party’s oath of allegiance and he is therefore pressing ahead with his bid for a seat on the slate for the October convention.

To add to the drama, this afternoon News Five received an anonymous package containing photocopies of cheques written between April and May 2008 made out to the Mayor’s brother and a number of other companies. Of note are an invoice from Helen Castro, wife of Minister Edmund Castro, for bulldozer work at the Garbage dump and a quarterly report from the Security Department on CitCo’s letter head, claiming that the quarterly cost for the security at the Mile five construction site was six thousand and forty-seven dollars. And in an attempt to prove a point, the anonymous envelope also contained a section of the Belize City Council Act, Clause Seven, under which Moya can be disqualified to run for office. So stay tuned, because according to the tip, there is more evidence of wrongdoing to come. A check through the voluminous documentation shows that some of the information was already released by the mayor last Friday.
